Financial Controller (Pronto).
Sydney NSW · Hybrid · Full-time. Lead finance strategy and own Pronto ERP for a prominent Australian retail chain — a rare FC role that bridges financial leadership with deep ERP functional ownership.
Position Overview
About the role
We are a prominent, large-scale retail chain operating across Australia, headquartered in Sydney. We are seeking a commercially astute and systems-savvy Financial Controller to lead our finance function.
Unlike a traditional FC role, this position requires a hands-on leader with deep functional expertise in Pronto ERP. You will not only drive financial strategy, statutory compliance, and team leadership — you will also act as the primary functional owner of our Pronto Financials, Retail, and Inventory modules. You will bridge the gap between finance and IT, ensuring our high-volume retail transactions, POS integrations, and supply chain data flow seamlessly through Pronto to deliver accurate, real-time business intelligence.
What you'll do
Key responsibilities
Financial Leadership & Reporting
- Lead the preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts, financial statements, and board reporting in compliance with AASB
- Oversee the annual statutory audit process, acting as the primary liaison with external auditors
- Manage the annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term strategic planning processes
- Ensure full compliance with Australian taxation requirements (ATO), including GST, BAS, FBT, and payroll tax
- Drive the month-end and year-end (EOFY) close processes, ensuring strict adherence to internal deadlines
Pronto ERP Functional Ownership
- Act as the senior functional owner and super-user for Pronto ERP (Financials, Retail/POS, Inventory, and Purchasing modules)
- Oversee the integration between POS and e-commerce platforms and Pronto, ensuring accurate and timely financial data flow
- Manage and optimise retail-specific financial processes within Pronto, including multi-store inventory valuation, landed cost calculations, and margin analysis
- Partner with the IT/Systems team to scope, test, and deploy Pronto upgrades, patches, and new financial module implementations
- Maintain the chart of accounts, financial workflows, and system controls within Pronto to ensure data integrity and robust internal controls
Commercial & Retail Finance
- Provide deep-dive commercial analysis on store performance, product category margins, and omnichannel profitability
- Partner with Supply Chain and Buying teams to analyse inventory health, optimise working capital, and review supply chain costs
- Evaluate the financial viability of new store openings, refurbishments, and strategic retail initiatives
- Monitor daily/weekly retail KPIs (sales, foot traffic, conversion, average transaction value) and provide actionable insights to the Retail Operations team
Team Leadership & BI Reporting
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing finance team (Management Accountants, Financial Accountants, AP/AR, and Payroll)
- Champion the use of business intelligence tools (Phocas, Congos, or PowerBI) to automate retail reporting and empower non-finance stakeholders with self-service analytics
- Foster a continuous improvement culture within the finance team, streamlining processes and eliminating manual workarounds
Cash Flow & Treasury
- Manage daily cash flow forecasting and optimise working capital across the retail network
- Oversee banking relationships, merchant facility reconciliations, and payment gateway integrations
- Manage corporate insurance portfolios and ensure adequate coverage for retail assets and stock
