Position Overview
About the role
We are a leading, large-scale mining and resources organisation seeking a highly skilled Pronto Xi 4GL Developer to design, build, and maintain custom enhancements, integrations, and technical solutions within our enterprise ERP environment. Running on Pronto Xi v7.40, our system supports a complex, global ecosystem of 500+ users across corporate offices, processing plants, and remote mine sites.
Working collaboratively with two Pronto Support Analysts, you will serve as the primary technical escalation point (L3/L4) and lead development initiatives for system enhancements. A solid understanding of mining, supply chain, asset management, and project accounting workflows is highly advantageous, as you will translate complex operational requirements into scalable, maintainable 4GL solutions. You will also partner closely with our BI team to optimise Cognos and Phocas data models for operational and financial reporting.
What you’ll do
Key responsibilities
Custom 4GL Development & System Enhancements
- Design, code, test, and deploy custom Pronto 4GL programs, screen modifications, and automated workflows tailored for mining operations (fleet maintenance, project costing, JV accounting, remote site inventory)
- Develop and maintain custom reports, batch processes, and system utilities using Pronto 4GL and advanced SQL within the v7.40 environment
- Refactor and optimize legacy 4GL code to improve performance and ensure full compatibility with Pronto Xi v7.40 and its PostgreSQL database
- Implement and manage custom configurations across Financials, Distribution, Maintenance, Purchasing, and Project modules
System Architecture & Integration
- Design and build secure, scalable integrations between Pronto Xi v7.40 and mining-specific third-party systems (FMS, weighbridges, geological databases, WMS, e-procurement platforms)
- Develop and maintain REST/SOAP APIs and middleware connectors for real-time data exchange between remote mine sites and central corporate systems
- Manage database schema modifications, indexing strategies, and query optimisation in PostgreSQL to support 500+ concurrent users with minimal latency
Technical Support & Team Mentorship
- Act as the final technical escalation point (L3/L4) for complex system errors, performance bottlenecks, and code-level defects
- Collaborate with and technically mentor two Pronto Support Analysts, providing code reviews, debugging guidance, and best-practice training
- Lead root-cause analysis for critical production incidents at both corporate and remote mine sites, implementing permanent technical fixes
BI & Data Engineering
- Partner with business stakeholders to design and implement advanced data models and automated data pipelines for Cognos and Phocas, focusing on mining KPIs (tons moved, equipment utilisation, safety metrics, procurement spend)
- Optimise Phocas data warehouse configurations, improve ETL performance, and resolve data synchronisation issues between Pronto v7.40 and BI platforms
- Develop custom SQL views and stored procedures to ensure reporting accuracy across multiple sites and cost centres
SDLC, DevOps & Release Management
- Follow structured SDLC methodologies: requirements gathering, technical design, version control, peer review, UAT coordination, and production deployment
- Manage code repositories and deployment pipelines, ensuring strict change-control protocols are followed to maintain system stability across global sites
- Execute comprehensive testing (unit, integration, performance) before all production releases, particularly prior to month-end and financial period closes
What you bring
Required qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
- Minimum 5–7 years of hands-on Pronto 4GL development experience in enterprise environments
- Proven, specific experience developing on Pronto Xi, including its PostgreSQL database architecture
- Demonstrated experience in the mining, resources, or heavy industrial sector (highly preferred)
- Experience working in a team structure, mentoring or leading junior support staff
Essential Technical Skills
- Expert-level proficiency in Pronto 4GL programming, debugging, and performance tuning
- Advanced PostgreSQL skills (specific to Pronto Xi v7.40): complex queries, stored procedures, query optimisation, and database design
- Strong experience with system integrations: REST/SOAP APIs, web services, EDI, and handling data synchronisation for remote/offline site operations
- Proficiency with version control systems (Git) and structured deployment methodologies
- Hands-on experience with Cognos and Phocas data modelling, ETL troubleshooting, and custom report development
Desirable Skills
- Pronto Xi Developer Certification or official v7.40 training credentials
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing in ERP environments
- Knowledge of C#, .NET, Python, or JavaScript for complementary automation tools
- Familiarity with mining-specific software integrations (MineWare, Jigsaw, or similar FMS/production systems)

- Participation in a rotational on-call schedule for high-priority technical incidents affecting mine site operations
